June 14, St. Paul-- Today we learned of the assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Emeritus Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as the shooting of Senator John Hoffman and his wife.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families of Representative Hortman and Senator Hoffman. Service to our communities is one of the highest honors. Violence has no place in our public arena.
We condemn this and any violence against all elected officials.

As part of our work, we partner with LWV Minnesota and other local Leagues to coordinate events and educational debates, to register new voters, and much more. At the same time, we work at the local level to host candidate forums for St. Paul elections, to promote civic engagement in new voters with programs in area high schools, and to provide numerous opportunities to connect with others who are passionate about making democracy work.
