October 24, 7:00 PM: The Day Iceland Stood Still

Join us at the O'Shaughnessy on October 24 at 7:00 p.m. for a screening of the documentary "The Day Iceland Stood Still," recounting the story of how a 24-hour strike involving 90% of Icelandic women in 1975 propelled Iceland to become a world leader in gender equality.

"When 90% of the women of Iceland walked off the job and out of their homes one fall morning in 1975 refusing to work, cook, or take care of the children, they brought their country to a standstill and catapulted Iceland to the 'best place in the world to be a woman.'"

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS - SAINT PAUL

For over 100 years, the League of Women Voters has worked as a citizens' league to improve our government and engage all citizens in the decisions that impact their lives. The League of Women Voters - Saint Paul joins the efforts of 800 state and local leagues to bring nonpartisan political advocacy, education, and empowerment to the local level.

WHY LOCAL LEAGUES MATTER

Supporting your local League is essential to the success of our democracy at every level. As part of our work, we partner with LWV Minnesota and other local Leagues to coordinate events and educational debates, to register new voters, and much more. At the same time, we work at the local level to host candidate forums for St. Paul elections, to promote civic engagement in new voters with programs in area high schools, and to provide numerous opportunities to connect with others who are passionate about making democracy work.

Join the women and men who have been supporting democratic ideals since 1919.
